So, my last post was a book review on ‘Lent For Everyone, Mark Year B’ By Tom Wright. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to read the review, which you can find here. But now, I want to draw your attention to Lent itself.
Yes, it doesn’t feel that long since it was Christmas, but Lent is upon us! And we only have one Sunday left to advertise and share with our churches what we plan to do throughout the period of Lent.
Well, I have an idea for you, which I seriously think you should consider and take on as part of your Lent programme this year. And my idea is this… why not join in with the Big Bible Project’s ‘Big Read 2012′?! Have a look at this:
I would seriously consider joining in with the Big Read 2012. I’ve already read the book, as I mentioned above, and Megan (my girlfriend) and I have decided that we are going to join the Big Read 2012 by doing it in our Small Group (House group) that we lead as part of our church, every Tuesday.
The material is very accessible, flexible and offers a great variety and mix of things to do in order that we get deeper into the bible, deepen our relationships with each other and enjoy the things that God has to offer us this Lent season.
In stead of giving something up for Lent this year, why not take on something? The Big Read 2012.
I can’t tell you how excited I am to be joining in this project. Megs and I are already thinking of ideas for the next seven weeks. I’m also going to reserve Tuesday evenings on my blog to post about what we discussed and talked about in Small Group so that the discussion can continue online. I believe that the Big Read will be an excellent resource not just for those of us in house groups or Lent groups, but also for us folk online too, as we blog, discuss, converse and talk through all the things raised throughout Mark’s gospel.
Get involved, or miss out! That’s my message to you this evening.
For more information on the Big Bible Project and especially the Big Read 2012, then please see the website, which you can find by clicking this link. The website has all the resources you need (you don’t even need to buy the book in order to join in!) as well as many ideas on how to lead a group with the course.
If you’re planning to get involved, want more information or anything else, then please let me know via the comments. Also, subscribe to the blog to get updates on how we’re doing with the Big Read, and to join in the discussion!
