‘Go’ ‘Follow’ ‘Add’ : Reinterpreting the Great Commission for Today

Go. Follow. Add.

All three of these words are commonly used in Social Networking. We ‘go’ to webpages. We ‘follow’ people on Twitter. We ‘add’ people on Facebook. Funnily enough, the New Testament talks about all three of these terms. We are to go and make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20), we are to tell people to follow Jesus (Matthew 16:24) and that by following Jesus and going to make disciples, numbers are added to the Church daily (Acts 2:47). So how do we fit the mission model found in Matthew 28 to our online presence? Read more

Will the Church please leave the building?

Thinking about the Church, Mission and Discipleship over the last few weeks, there have been two things that have focussed my concentration:

1) The Priesthood of All Believers

2) Future Patterns of Ministry.

Training for Church Ministry: It’s Essential!

Posted on by Dean Roberts Posted in Church, Mission, Rant!, Serving | 5 Comments

Caution! – This post may be controversial! I’m not claiming to be an expert on this issue. I’m merely a 20 year old theology student who’s being taught by an incredible God about ministry and the path he has called me to for the rest of my life. This post applies to me as much as anyone else! And of course, I may be wrong on this issue – but I shall leave that with you to consider :)

Don’t tell me that someone can go into full time Church ministry without some sort of training. I mean, in the past, people have tried to justify people’s lack of training for ministry because Read more

Hey all – sorry that this blog has been so quiet for the last week or so. I’ve been so busy! I’ve had loads of work to do, essays to start and complete and lots of deadlines. But all is finished for now, at least, and therefore the blogging shall resume!

I’ve had a brilliant week being refreshed, encouraged, inspired and challenged at the Cardiff University Christian Union annual Houseparty. The CU has Read more

The Facilitator

I’ve been thinking a lot about the word ‘Facilitator’ today. Because it was today that I was asked to lead worship for the New Wine Cymru South East Wales Regional Conference. And I have to say, I was deeply encouraged. New Wine exists Read more

Claiming our Canann

Today we had our first Friday Morning Prayer meeting for the Term at Church today, after having a break for the summer. I have to say that I really enjoyed going to Morning Prayer this morning. And I’m particularly glad that I did this morning.

The reason for me being specially glad is because I’ve been thinking about a lot of things over the summer. And the scripture we read this morning was one of the things that I’ve been thinking about; Canann. And we read about how Moses commanded some leaders to go and explore Canann.  In fact, I’m Read more

The Great Commission and a Ministry that’s Pioneering.

Posted on by Dean Roberts Posted in Evangelism, Mission | 3 Comments

Today at church we’ve been talking a lot about pioneering ministry. This morning in church, the question was asked “Who here thinks that they can be a pioneer for God?” This evening, we commissioned the new team in our church who will be working with The Lab, an experimental young adults church that has been birthed out of St Paul’s, and is headed up by James Henley, our associate pastor. And since I got home, I’ve been Read more

McDonalds, Atheist Altruism and the Christian Gospel

Posted on by Dean Roberts Posted in Evangelism, Mission, Serving | 4 Comments

What, you may ask, is Altruism? Of course, you already know what McDonalds is! Altruism “…is the renunciation of the self, and an exclusive concern for the welfare of others. It is a traditional virtue in many cultures, and a core aspect of various religious traditions, though the concept of ‘others’ toward whom concern should be directed can vary among religions. Altruism is the opposite of selfishness.” Today, in my RSS reader, a very interesting blog post was written on Read more

‘JustMap’ a website that is putting Christian social projects on the map

Posted on by Dean Roberts Posted in Church, Mission | Leave a comment

One thing I love to see is Christians coming together as one body to claim a nation for Jesus. Of course, this doesn’t have to be hardcore evangelism and Bible bashing. There is a lot to be said for social action. In fact, I would say that Read more
