What are women asking when they ask trapping questions?

shutterstock_60504643-1024x682I’m reading a lot of books at the moment, and one that I have on the go is a book about relationships. It’s specifically aimed at husbands and wives and was given to me by my Father in Law for Christmas just gone, probably in preparation for married life. Anyone who knows me know that I’m not a lovey-dovey person. I don’t like PDAs and I’m always cautious of being sickeningly romantic- especially in front of others, and especially especially especially if they’re single. I mean, soppy romance is just the British definition of awkward, is it not? Read more

Our Father.

Last week I was asked if I would ever have children by a colleague. The conversation went on to describe how having children spends all your money for you, gives you too much responsibility, puts a strain on your other relationships, means you can’t do things your way and leaves you thoroughly exhausted at times. It sounds awful! So what, I asked, makes it all worth it? Why do you carry on past having just the one child? Read more

But I’m not here to voice my opinions on Valentines Day, but found this on the internet and thought you may enjoy it. Please feel free to share this post with friends via your preferred Social Network. It’s a love letter… Read more

Reconciliation through Love

Posted on by Dean Roberts Posted in Devotional | Leave a comment

Today at church we talked about walking in love. I was struck by the response of the people during the peace where compliments were exchanged, friendships were renewed and broken hearts were mended. The best part of seeing that happen was that it wasn’t fake.

Most of the time, I love being a student. I love the vibe of being one. I love the fact that we’re all exploring life together. I love going to uni, and I love making friends. But there are certain times where I just want to vomit all over Student Culture. Read more

Lulu talks about her faith in a ‘Loving God’

Posted on by Dean Roberts Posted in Current Affairs | Leave a comment

Famous ‘Shout’ singer, Lulu has recently been interviewed about her faith in a loving God.

Lulu’s career has been going strong for nearly half a century, and it is God who she puts down as the one who’s made it all happen.

In a recent interview on the UK’s Premier Radio, a leading Christian Radio Company, she told the listening audience of how God has guided her through. Here are some of her quotes…

A relationship with a loving God is the only important thing,” she said.

“If I feel a connection with God, I feel love. Everything works, everything is just fine.”

“Ultimately we’re all special, but you can’t think that you’re more special than anyone else.”

“I was the luckiest girl,” she said. “To be working with those people and to have been thrown into the spotlight, that’s the difficult part.

“But then there’s the luck part. I have to say thank you God, thank you God, thank you God.”

What’s great about this news item is that it’s a story of someone who’s searching. They know of a God, they feel his love. There’s no religion involved, just faith. And that’s what it’s all about for Christians.

Wise Words

Posted on by Dean Roberts Posted in Devotional | Leave a comment

Just saw these wise words in proverbs. This guy really knew the danger of the world, yet really loved God…

Proverbs 30:7-9:

7“Two things I ask of you, LORD;
do not refuse me before I die:
8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.

Walking the Way of Love

It’s a tough call to walk in the way of love, but this is what God expects of us. Love is a hard thing. I’m not just talking romantic love. Love for God is tough sometimes too! Some of you will be reading this post and you will have never loved God at all. You don’t know Jesus for yourself, and today and every day he asks you to accept his love so that you can be free, have relationship with him, have eternal life from him, and in turn go out to love others and make a difference in the world. For those of us who do love Christ, the call to walk in the way of love is hard because things get us down. Sometimes we feel like God isn’t near. We don’t feel like loving our boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wives in the way we should. We don’t feel like doing everything to God’s glory. We don’t always love his church. We don’t always love those who don’t know Jesus yet.

I reckon that if I loved more, then I would see God moving a lot more in my life. Therefore, my prayer today is that I walk in the way of love.

Ephesians 5:1-2 ~ Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

He is JEALOUS for us.

That song that I mentioned ages ago… ‘How he Loves’ has just come back to me. The fact that God is JEALOUS for us is one amazing line. It’s a wonderful thing to know that I know a God who individually cares and loves me. He’s a relational, personal God, and it’s GREAT to know Him.

Out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks

Posted on by Dean Roberts Posted in Day-to-Day, Devotional, Jesus, Mission, Serving | Leave a comment

I’ve been challenged recently by these words from Luke 6:

43“For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, 44for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. 45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

I’ve decided that in order to be an effective, fruit producing disciple of Christ, I need to be aware and cherish the good treasure in my heart; that is Jesus himself.

There is no point in me evangelising, or telling others about him if my heart isn’t brimming over with joy and love for him. That’s what my heart needs to be abundant of; love for Jesus.

Personal evangelism and fruit production in one’s life just doesn’t happen or work without the good treasure of Jesus and the abundance of him present in the heart.
